2016 Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching
In March 2016, I received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching. In the award announcement, Jacqueline Looney, Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, stressed that the "review committee strives to recognize applicants who have engaged in professional development activities and have made significant contributions to teaching, TA training, and student learning outcomes within their department or across disciplinary boundaries at Duke."
I am very honored to share this prestigious award with Heather Heenehan, a marine science and conservation Ph.D. Candidate. I see this distinction as a confirmation of my work in the classroom thus far, and at the same time a motivation to continuously further my craft as a teacher.
